This video was when I am practising the intro for my composition. I think the intro was better played that the composition and was more easier to memorize. So next, I should keep practising the composition with the intro but focus on the composition itself for the practical assessment.

This video was when I was trying to memorize the song. I think I still need to memorize some parts of the song especially the endings of each part and the chords. Next, I should practise this until the endings are correct and the chords too.

Today, those who are late was asked to sing the Indonesian song. Then, we were told about our written notation quiz that we did last time about minor scales. Then, from each instrument, 2 people were picked to play their composition. I played mines and heard the others play. I think they have good songs. Next, we were told that there will be rehearsal next time for the practical assessment.
Piano Class
Today, I practise my composition while Mr. Herry taught the violin class because the violin teacher didn't come. I still must to memorize my song because I haven't tried to memorize it yesterday. I think overall, the progress was okay, with my composition done including the lyrics. Next, I should keep uploading my blog.

Today, Mr. Herry gave comments and motivation for us first before our lesson. Then, our socre of the booklet that we did last term: mines about reggae, was rold. I think the score was good and was satisfied with it. Then, we were shown different examples of the 32 bar composition for different instruments. I think they all did great in making their own composition. Next, I should practise my own composition and check whether it match with what Mr. Herry requires us to do and include.

Today, I played my own composition to practise for the real practical assessment. I think I need more practise and to memorize it. Then my classmates played their composition. I think their composition was all so good. One of my friends had even memorized it. Next, I should keep practising and try to memorize it.

Today, our 32 bar composition task was asked to be copied in a sheet. I also put the title but wasn't sure of it. I forgot to bring my laptop and the music book so I dont have my composition with me. Because of this, I have to try to remember the melody that I created the best I could and copied it down in the paper. I think I need to be prepared next time with either the laptop or the melody in the music book. Next, I should email the 16 bar melody today and 32 bar melody and the lyrics on Friday.
Piano Class
This piano class, I played the 32 bar melody that I made. Because I didn't bring the laptop nor the melody in music book, I have to figure out the chords again from the top. I got another suggestion from Mr. Herry to change some chords that I think was different from the one at home. After this, I remembered that I have my 16 bar melody in my USB so I save the file to the school's computer. But the USB does not have the edited part where I change the ending of the A' yesterday. So, I still have to email the final 16 bar melody today but save it first at music class. Next, I should remember emailing it and the 32 bar with lyrics.

In this class, our 16 bar task was checked. I brought my laptop to show my work in finale. When it was checked, I was said that my 16 bar work's ending of the A' part wasn't good. I realized this, too, when I made it at home. Now, through Mr. Herry's suggestion, I know what to change it into. I think my melody is now better. Then we discussed this topic and was told that we can make either ABACA or AA'BA' whichever we prefer. Next, I should practise the AA'BA' 32 bar melody that I had made.
Piano Class
In today's piano class, I play the 32 bar melody that I made in my laptop in the piano. Mr Herry and I disucssed and found out some chords didn't match the melody. I think the melody was now, overall, okay. So, I get to change some of the 16 bar and the 32 bar. Next, I should put the lyrics and the changes that I made into those two melodies in finale.

In music theory class today, I did a quiz on minor scales including natural, harmonic, melodic scales. I think I did quite good and have understood what I learned previously. Next, I should make the 16 bar melody to be submitted next Monday. I should also continue my blog.

In piano class, I was asked to do the 16 bar homework that we were ased to do. also, when we are done, we were asked to make 32 bar melody with the same AA'BA' pattern with 8 bars each. I think I will ahve to hurry and catch up with the 16 bar and 32 bar task. So next, I should make it at home in the finale.

Today, we revise minor scales, minor harmonic and minor melodic scales. We were explained about intervals one more time. I think I have understood minor scales already now. Next, I learned how to fill in 16 bars chords with AA'BA' pattern due next week in Finale. I think this task can be completed for next week. We were then told to ask the signature of our parents for the notation test and do the 16 bar melody for next week.

This theory class we discussed the homework that I did yesterday which is minor natural, minor harmonic and minor melodic scales. I think I should learn more about melodc scalles because it is still confusing for me. Next, I should memorize the formula for all minor scales so I would understand it better.

Today I played minor scales: natural, harmonic and melodic one octave of A,E,B, and F# scales. I think I should keep practising this. Next, I should continue other minor scales after F# minor.

Today, we learn about major scales, minor scales, minor harmonic scales and melodic scales. I learned how to find the relative minor scale from the major scale. Then, we were given the formula for each minor scales (natural, harmonic, melodic). I think I understand scales better now. Next, I should make E major and C# minor scale in my music book and minor harmonic and melodic scales C,G,D,A and E. I did it in class already but I found the melodic scales more difficult.
Piano Class
This class, we played the broken chords left hand like last week but this time from C-B. I think I need more practise especially for those other than C scale. Next, I should practise minor, minor harmonic, minor melodic scales from C-B and also these chords.

Today, we discussed the homework that we did which is the 8 bar chords. Some of our work was shown and asked to write in the board but some didn't because there is not enough time. I think my work was okay but needs improvements. Next, I should put melody in the chords and edit the chords that I don't like. Last, I learned about passing notes which can help me make my melody.
Piano class
In piano class today, I practised for Saturday's competition then, we listened for guitar practise for competition. Then, we were told about tips for chords later in our composiiton. We then played those chords in the piano. I think these chords will be useful for later in making the composition. Next, I should practise these left hand broken chords.

Today, we learn chords to prepare for our composition. We learn to differentiate major, major 7th, minor, minor 7th, dom 7th and diminished chords. Then we were asked to write 8 bar chords. I was asked to fill the melody of 4 bars played by guitar chords. I think I understood more about the chords and how to differentiate them now. Next, I should do the homework of 8 bar chords for tomorrow.

Today the first thing that my group did was change our clothes since we are the first group to perform. We perform one group at a time. I think my gropu was okay but need to improve in the pitch and movement. But overall, it was alright. Then, I watched the 3rd and 4th group, after changing back into uniform. After that, we all watched all the groups from 1st to 4th. I think they were all great in their performance. Next, I should continue to update my blog and continue practising chords.

Today, we were asked whether we prefer the singing assessment today or tomorrow. The class chose tomorrow. So, this two sessions, we basically prepare for tomorrow per group, then rehearse. We decide who will go first, second, third and fourth. My group was first to perform. Then, after the rehearsal, we each picked a room to rehearse per group. With these activities, we do not have our practical session. I think my group needs more practise but was already quite ready overall. Next, I should be ready for the assessment with the costumes together with my group.

Today, we sat per instrument group to do the theory assessment on major scales, chords and their inversions. It consist of 4 pages including the cover page and the reflection page. I think I did quite well although I was confused with some questions inside, like the Bb major and the blanks under the inversion. I manage to figure these out later when Mr. Herry explained it. Next, I should be ready with my group singing assessment on Monday, 4 October 2010.
Piano Class
Today, I played major 7th chords and their inversion in both one way and contrary from C-B. I looked at my friend's book for the fingerings. With guidance from this, I think I did better now with the fingerings. Next, I should still practise more so that it is more fluent and fits the fingering without looking.

In today's class, we were told that the theory assessment is postponed to tomorrow while the singing assessment to next week. The postpone of theory assessment is to suit the other class which will have it tomorrow too. THen, we sat with our singing group to practise together. After that, we were shown 3 videos of other international singers with great talents for inspiration. We then rehearse per group with what we have prepared so far. I think my group still needs practise and movement. Next, I should focus in learning for the theory assessment tomorrow.
Piano Class
Today, I played major 7th chord from C-E and their inversions then back again. I think my fingerings are bad and that it is not fluent. We were then told told about the fingerings. Next, I have to continue them from C-B with its proper fingerings. The proper fingerings are: root: RH 1235, LH 5421, 1st invertion: RH 1245, LH 5321, 2nd inversion: RH 1235 LH 5321 and 3rd inversion: RH 1245, LH 5421.

Today, our uniform was checked. My tie was too loose so I was asked to tighten it. Then, we talked about our personal engagement criterion that will affect our final score. So we were encouraged to be more discipline in doing our blogs. We then studied chords and did a mock test about this. I did one mistake, forgetting to put natural sign in one of the chords. Next, I think the mock test was quite easy but I need to learn more for Monday's theory test. Next, I should prepare for this theory test and be careful when doing this to avoid careless mistakes.
Piano Class
This piano class was short so we only played C-B major 7th chord and dom 7th chord no B-C chords. I think I played quite well rather than playing B-C chords yesterday. Next, I should keep practising these chords both from C-B and B-C.

Today, our scores for developmental workbook was told. I was told that I got 8/8. I think I did well in reflecting because now I know my strength and weakness through reflecting. So, I was satisfied with this score. Then, we disucssed the programme for term 2 which is group singing next week, theory, composition, developmental workbook and finally practical. The nearest activity is group singing so we divide the class into groups of 6. After knowing our group members, we were given homework of major 7th and dom 7th. I did it quickly so I won't have any homework but I did a mistake in B major 7th and dom 7th because I forgot the sharp in A for B major. I should improve my chords and prepare singing by group by taking note of the members. Next, the chord homework will be due but I have done it. I think this lesson is useful especially for the chords for composition.

In piano class, we played those chords that we wrote for homework which is major 7th chord and dom 7th from C to B then from B to C. I think I need more practise in playing this chords because I still make mistakes when playing chords backwards which is from B to C. Next, I should practise these chords and also start with my blog so the updates aren't late.

Today, at first we were shown video clips of our friends from other class in their solo classical assessment. Different people from different instrument classes were shown. I think they did well in their performances. Then, those that did not get their turn playing yesterday played today for their assessment. After they performed, we were told about our scores for the assessment and feedback from the teacher. I was told that I got 9.5. I could not get perfect score for this because I did some mistakes at the back but fortunately was able to continue the song instead of stopping. I was quite satisfied with this score but I should still practise more to get better next time. After that, we were asked to fill in the music developmental workbook that was due that day. I filled in mines but need more time so I used some of my recess time to complete the workbook then submit that day. I think it was quite good and completely filled. Next, I should finish my last update in the blog for this term, which is today and also complete the video uploading.

This video is when I am practising certain parts from the first part of my song. I think the left hand part was difficult so I played that first than after it was quite fluent, I continued with both hands. I think with more practise I could make it more fluent. The end part of the video was better than the first so I think it could be more fluent. Next, I should practise the difficult part from the slow part of the song.

This video is the second part of the song. I played it once as a rehearsal for the assessment. I think that I still has many parts here that is wrong, especially when the story tells that the dwarfs are tumbling down the stairs. The notes in that part are quite complicated. Next I should practise on the certain parts that I think is difficult.

This video is when I practise for my practical assessment. This part is only the first part of my song. This is due to the maximum number of minutes per video which is 2 minutes. It is not enough for me to record the whole song. I think I played it with some mistakes but in total, it is okay. I should practise more in the fast part where the left hand must go to a high note then down then high then down and so on.

Today, we did the practical assessment. I was the 4th who presented. At first we were given a paper to fill in about background of our song, why I chose the song, what preparations, how I did it and what next. I filled in the first three questions: background of the song, why I chose the song and what preparations before playing. Then, after playing, I filled in the last 2 questions which is how I did it and what next. I think I did it quite well but did some mistakes at the end. I should have practised even more so that it is more fluent and also practise for confidence. Next I should photocopy the music sheet of my song and complete my reflection. We were also told about the music developmental workbook which was to be given and filled tomorrow.

Today we continued the rehearsal that wasnt finished yesterday which is the one who hasn't had their turn yesterday. I had my turn yesterday so I did not play in this theory class. I think the ones who played are all nice although some needs more practise. I need practise too. Next, I should prepare my 20 page booklet about reggae music to be submitted in class next session which is the 6th September on Monday.
Piano Class
I played my song to rehearse for my assessment today but I still needs more practise. Mr Herry said it was better than yesterday. There is still parts where it is not yet fluent. Next, I should be prepared for the assessment which is also on the 6th, together with the submission of reggae music booklet that I am going to make. The woodwind group played and rehearse after the piano group.

Today in this class, I learned about major and minor 7th chord. We wrote down C major scale in our notebooks labelling the notes and also C major 7th, F major 7th, G major 7th, D minor 7th, E minor 7th, A minor 7th and B dim 7th. After that, my work was checked, I got one wrong because I was not sure when I want o write B dim 7th. After this chord activity, we did a rehearsal for our practical assessment next week but only some got their turn. I had my turn but I think I need a lot more pratise and also practise more confidence. Then, some of the piano group rehearse and two of the guitar group and one from violin. Next, I should prepare my song more and try to memorize it.
Piano Class
In this class, the one who didn't play before played in the piano instrument class. While they played, I cut my fingernails while waiting because it is too long and I forgot to cut my fingernails during the weekend. I was given feedback of my rehearsal before that I could lower down the speed to catch up the notes, especially the left hand and the middle part of the song which should be more fluent and soft in my opinion.

Today, we did our presentation. The ones who haven't done it yesterday did it today. I did it today. My group presented first. I think my group presentated good and I am also satisfied with the cooperation we had in doing the presentation and also the making of the powerpoint slides. I was told that we got perfect score. Next, we were told to do an individual report consisting of 20 pages about our topic which, in my case, is reggae music. This was due on 6 September, the same date for our practical assessment.
Piano Class
Today, I forgot to bring my book in my locker so I have to take it first. Then, I decided to play a piece from Edward Grieg from the romantic period of classical period. I think I played it not too well because there is some parts which is still not fluent. I must also cut my fingernails for next session and of course practise the song.

Today, we did our powerpoint assessment. At first, after checking our absences and resources, each group went to the school computer to save the powerpoint file in the computer. Then, we were given a reflection sheet for us to fill in after we did our presentation. The asesment begins after that, with classical group frist, then country, jazz rock and roll, reggae and popular. At first, the time is divided into 10 minutes each group but then, after the first four groups presented, we discovered that there isn't time for the rest group so the last two groups will present next session. I will present it next session first. So, I have more time to prepare my presentation. I think the group that presented today are all great, some even providing sample music and videos.

Music Practise, Home
This is the video of my practise of C-B minor harmonic scales in contrary direction. I did the G minor harmonic scale badly and some of the B minor harmonic scale so for those which is not good, I repeated it until it is quite fluent. I think it is quite good but still needs practise. Next, I should be more fluent in the major scales that I did before and minor harmonic scales both in same direction and contrary.

Today, after taking the absence, we sta in our group for presentation. Then, we did our rehearsal for presentation next week because tomorrow is a holiday. We did our rehearsal and got some feeback from Mr. Herry and friends. Some additional information will be added later by my friend from those feedbacks. He would also try to download "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" song to be turned in the presentation. After the teacher asked each member of our group a question, we ask our friends. Then we were rated: thumbs up or thumbs down. The other groups came next but there is only time for one group to rehearse. So next week, I'll be ready with the new edited powerpoint. We were then shown each site of our blog. Some of my classmates' blog aren't known yet. I'll have to put 2 videos on my blog this week because I did not have time to record last week. We were thought of theoria.com for tutorial in music theory class of chords, etc.
Practical Class (Piano)
Today, I played B major scale (4 octaves with contrary) and C-B minor harmonic scale. I think I played it badly because I haven't practise. Every scale has a mistake and isn't fluent. So, next week I will ahve to repeat the same scale and prepare a song for the classical tune performance for assessment. Mr Herry said that it could be any classical tune including sonata, valse, waltz, nocturne, prelude, etc.

Today, the groups were written on the white board with the topic of each group written. Then, we were asked to sit according to our groups. This is so that we can discuss about the presentation. We were given a big carton to write down the outline of our presentation which we discussed together and agreed on researching. Our outline was then presented in front of the class and then we were to ask two classmates about our outline. Next, we were told to research on the impacts of our music to the society for the presentation. We were also told about two videos that we must upload in our blog of maximum two minutes of us practising our instrument. I plan on recording when I practise my scale.
Instrument Class (Piano)
This instrument class, I played for practise for the afternoon's recognition day event playing F. Chopin's Valse. Mr. Herry said that I played better than last year: with expresion. After that, I was told that the piano that I will be using later will be another different one. So I practise it once more on the other piano to feel touch feel. The others than played scale. For next session, I will prepare my scale that was asked before which is B scale and minor harmonic scales.

Today, as soon as I got in the music room, I put my friend's file from my USB to the school computer. She asked me to help saving it after she found it herself. This is to prepare for today's singing assessment. After that, we took our absences as usual and then the assessment start. When it was my turn, I sang "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson. I think I did it better than the last time I did it. Mr. Herry agreed on this but I still have to improve more on the confidence so that I could make my voice a bit louder. Then, we talked about our upcoming music presentation. We were divided into groups of 4 people each and then picked a topic. Each group talked about different genre of music. Mines was the reggae genre. For next session, I should prepare my presentation by bringing some materials to class so after the session, we discussed together and decide to bring a laptop tomorrow and had some research on reggae genre of music.
Insturment Class (Piano)
In this session, we were told about our task in term 2 which is to make a composition of our own. We were told on the importance of learning the chords now so that we could later express more on what we want better. Then, we each played the scale. I played the scale two octaves in same direction and two octaves contrary then back again. For next session, I must do the same thing for B major because it is not too fluent when I played it and also minor harmonic scales in 2 octaves, same direction.

Today, as soon as we entered the classroom, we were welcomed by the instrumental of "Heal the World". Followed by the checking of resources then the uniform check and also selection of captain and vice. Then, we did a singing warm up together. A group of 5 people are to take turn going outside to practise for their assessment. The assessment start after we all did the warm up. I was given a small booklet of singing performance filling in my song title, composer, background of the song, why I chose the song and my preparation. I left the how I did and what next questions to be filled after the assessment. Unfortunately, there is not much time for all of us to get their turns so I must wait for Monday to have my assessment. This session, I just watched the ones having their assessment. Next, I must still practise for my own singing assessment.

Today what we did first was checking the resources, like what we did usually. Then those who did not bring music book are to choose one volunteer to collect money and buy in the basement. Then, we say what song we each choose for our assessment tomorrow. I picked the song "Heal the World" by Michael Jackson. Most of us picked "Heal the World" too. We then rehearse for our singing assessment tomorrow, to be more confident in front of our class. Then, we were told to prepare to fill in a reflection that will be given tomorrow of why we choose that particular song, background of it, etc. We were also told about the group presentation which is our next task. To do this, we are divided into groups for each genre of music to find its impact on society, information etc of at least 10 slides, max 20 slides.

First thing we did was putting our electronic devices in front. Then, I was moved to the row in front in the piano group section which I did not know at first. We were then given a sort of quiz of scales. While doing, Michael Buble's "Always on my mind" played as background music. Then we stand for singing exercises and "Always on my mind", then each group take turns singing. Next was Michael Jackson's "Heal the World". We sang it together until we do not know how it sounds. So, his video was played to hear the tone and pitch. Next week, I should prepare for the singing assessment especially if we want to sing a different song. This is so that the music teachers can provide accompanion for us. For the blog, I remember my password, so I decided to use my old blog for the task. I should then add every session's reflection regularly.
Music Practical Class
In today's class, we were asked to write down the major scales that we play yesterday, which is C,D,E,F,G,A,B major scales to our notebook. We were asked to include the key signature and name of notes. While doing this, each was called to play the scales. I played the contrary scale 2-4 octaves but was not satisfied because it isn't really fluent. So next week I should practise it more and think about joining the music club every Thursday. We were then told about a song which is a classical tune that we must play for this term.

In today's class, the first thing that we did in this class was checking resources. I brought my complete resources. We were then told that there will be a pop western singing assessment. We can choose our song or by the choices that are given. The song must be about human relations or world issues. Then, our homework of major chords was checked. SOme students were called to write down the chords in the board, another name the notes in each chord and others were asked to name a random chord by not looking at the board. Then, we were asked to identify whether each chord sounds happy or sad. We were told that those sound happy was a major chord and sad a minor chord except for the seventh chord - diminished. Next we discuss the difference of major and minor which was the interval. The major has interval of 1,1,1/2,1,1,1,1/2. Chords sthat are major include the I,IV,V minor include II,III,VI and the diminished VII. After that we were told to write G major scale and I-VII chords in our music book. The chords were for homework. Next discussion is about our reflection task. We were shown of the blog website, an example of a blog and what to include in our reflection. We were told the criteria for music class which was Knowledge and Understanding, Application, Reflection and Evaluation and Personal Engagement. I think I will have to make a new blog since I forgot hte password of my old blog. Then we were given the MYP Learning Plan and Task booklet. We were also explained about a presentation that we must do in groups about music genre. Then we discussed the rest of the booklet including two videos that I must have in my blog of each maximum 2 minutes. For next session, I should prepare for the singing assessment, the blog and the chord homework but I have done the chord homework in class.
Music Practical Class
For practical class, each of us played the major scale from C-B in two octaves. For next lesson, I was asked to play the contrary version of each major scales. I think I did okay although I forgot to begin with teh fourth finger for the B sclas so I still need some practise.

Today, we took our attendance first then we revise some of the points in the essential agreement we had yesterday. Then, we sorted out the draft of division of instrumental group. The old students who picked their division of class got like a VIP place, not needing an audition. The others, had to do an audition fighting for the limited seats in the guitar group. The piano group which was full earlier had volunteers moving from piano to violin and another dropping the class for other group. A while later another one move to piano group so the group was full. The guitar group did their audition with the old students playing too.While waiting for the judge of the audition, which were the music teachers, we were asked to open our music book making C major sccale and major chords. Next, for our homework, we were asked to complete the chords from chord III to VII. For this class, I did brought my complete resources. Next lesson, I would also bring them regularly each session.
Music Practical Class
In practical class today, there is less time for us to play each. So, the new students get to play. Only some got their turn to play and I did not get any chance. Since I am not a new student and that Mr Herry asked the others so he can know approximately the standard of playing of each student. For next lesson, I should just prepare for a practical lesson by playing the scale which was common to start the lesson each term.

I am now in Grade 10, having my first music theory class. In this class, I found out that there are many new students on my class. They were all called up front to introduce themselves, saying their names, previous schools and the instruments they played. This was done after taking our absences/attendance. Since we are having our first music sessioln, we were introduced th rules and regulations in our class and how we are divided into 4 groups for instrument class. Eventually, we were asked to fill in a paper choosing the instrument we like to learn. Then, we discussed the IB Learner Profile and talked about how music class affects the Learner Profile. The rules or the Grade 10 Music Essential Agreement was then introduced and discussed. All of us have to follow them. Today's music class is quite interesting as the music teachers did a quick performance on jazz and blues. Last, because there wasn't enough time to fix the division of groups, it was set aside for next music session. There was too many people in piano and guitar group which needed sorting out. For next class, I will have to bring all my resources to class including music book, journal, clear holder, notebook and my writing materials. We all do not have to bring our instruments next session as we will only have theory sessions.
